Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Sestertius (27.5mm, 18.73 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 186. Laureate bust right, slight drapery / Commodus standing left on platform, holding scepter and haranguing six soldiers standing to left with three signa. Cf. RIC III 468d (for type); MIR 18, 688-6/30 var. (bust type); Banti 70 var. (same). Green-brown patina, smoothed. Fine. Very rare variety. While the legend variety was known to Szaivert and Banti, there are no other known examples of this reverse type paired with this legend and bust type.
