The St. Albans Collection of English Gold Coins | NGC AU Details | James II (1685-1688), Two-Guineas, 1688 over 7, laureate head left, rev. no stop after HIB, crowned shields cruciform, emblem-adorned sceptres in angles, eight strings to harp, edge obliquely milled, 16.72g, 6h (MCE 122; Schneider II, 454; EGC 318; King 121; Spink 3399), two unfortunate lamination flaws on cheek, and a second more significant flaw through French shield, softly struck on hair as usual for type, nevertheless residually brilliant in recesses, a bolder very fine, the overdate rare, with NGC 'St Albans' Certification, clumsily graded AU Details ~ Cleaned (#6295553-016).
