Kingdom of Macedon, Philip III Arrhidaios AR Tetradrachm. Struck under Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, in the types of Alexander III. Babylon, circa 323-317 BC. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress / Zeus Aëtophoros seated to left, holding sceptre; ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ below, ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY to right, radiate head of Helios facing, with small T above, in left field, KY below throne. Price P205 var. (no T); Müller P117 var. (same). 16.67g, 28mm, 8h.

Good Very Fine. Extremely Rare.

Not noted by any cataloguer prior to that working on CNG E-463 (March 2020, lot 33), the small letter T found above the head of Helios and within his radiate crown can be found on a few examples of the type (Price P205) that have appeared on the market since the 1990's. Interestingly, there is a complimentary issue that was struck for Alexander III where a small T was engraved below the facing head of Helios (Price 3698).
