Collection of Masonic Medals (3) | Gold Pendant Medal Honourable Testimonial of Masonic Charity & Benevolence, struck in 14 carat, by J. Spencer, 1860, Birmingham, awarded to Brother B. W. Hubbard, served as steward to the RMIG 1931 RMIB 1934 RMBI 1945, suspended on riband with three bars and with pin, extremely fine, in original case of issue; Masonic Hospital Silver Medal, 'EGROS SANAT HUMANITAS', 1958, by J.C of London, awarded to Brother B. W. Hubbard, No. 4481, extremely fine, in original case of issue; Masonic Royal Arch Companion's Silver Breast Jewel, undated, by G. Kenning & Son of Birmingham, 1933, some slight wear to gilt, otherwise extremely fine, in original case of issue (3).
The first medal, sometimes called the Sussex Jewel, was first awarded in 1830. It was awarded to masons who became stewards of more than one of the charities (at first just the Girls and the Boys, then the Benevolent Institution as well). The central device, struck as a circular medal, is of Charity nursing a girl in the uniform of the Royal Masonic School for Girls and a boy holding a book, under a triangle containing the eye of the Great Architect, underneath the image is the Latin date for 1830. The reverse of the jewel bears the inscription "Honorable Testimonial of Masonic Charity and Benevolence Instituted by H:R:H: Aug Fred: Duke of Sussex M:W: Grand Master".
