Pescennius Niger, 193-194. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.89 g, 7 h), Antioch. IMP CAES C PESC NIGE - R IV[S AVG COS II] Laureate head of Pescennius Niger to right. Rev. INVICTO IM[P TR]OPAEA Trophy, at the foot of which a helmet and a spear on the left, and two spears and two shields on the right. BMC 296 var. (TROPAE instead of TROPAEA). Cohen 36 var. (IVSTVS instead of IVS). RIC 38b. Rare. Somewhat rough surfaces, otherwise, very fine.

The fragmentary legend of this specimen can be reconstructed with certainty. It shares the obverse die with several other coins (one of them in the Münzkabinett Berlin), while it is only the second specimen from this reverse die known to us.
