Nicephorus II Phocas, 963-969. Tessera (Bronze, 18 mm, 3.57 g, 1 h), weight of two tetarta (?). +/ ΔY/Ο in three lines within round dotted border. Rev. TE/TAP/TΩN in three lines within round dotted border. Bendall, Weights 17 note. Hendy, Studies, p. 508; cf. Göbl, Antike 234 (tetarteron). Very rare! Some roughness on the reverse, otherwise, nearly very fine.


These bronze tokens/weights are related to the introduction of the light weight Tetarteron by Nikephorus II Phocas.
