MACEDON, Chalkidian League. Olynthos. Circa 395-392 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.42 g, 8 h). Laureate head of Apollo to left, some strands of hair falling down the back of his neck. Rev. X-Α-Λ/ΚΙΔ/ΕΩΝ Kithara with seven strings, between the upright handholds. Robinson - Clement, Addenda 4, pl. XXXV, 4, this obverse die (Group K). Only one example noted by R-C, found only in the addenda of their catalog! Elegant and rich classical style. Slight die shift on obverse, otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of a German specialist.

The cast of the example that we give as reference to this coin, arrived apparently when Robinson & Clement had almost completed their work on the Olynthus IX volume, and thus it was published in the addenda in the first pages of the book. The authors classified the new coin with the hitherto unknown to them dies, to Group K, dated between 395 and 392 BC. Our example shares the same obverse die as that coin (of G. Ufer, in Naumburg), but the reverse die is totally unknown.
