JULIUS CAESAR. AR Denarius (3.57 gms), Military Mint traveling with Caesar in North Africa, ca. 48-47 B.C. NGC AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
Cr-458/1; CRI-55; Syd-1013; RSC-12. Obverse: Diademed head of Venus right; Reverse: Aeneas advancing left, holding palladium and bearing Anchises on shoulder. Fairly well centered and quite deeply toned, this charming specimen that alludes to Caesar's fabled descent from Venus and Aeneas stands as a great mythological type that blends the historical fame of Caesar with the allure of Mount Olympus.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
