MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1772-Mo FM. Mexico City Mint. Charles III. PCGS AU-58.
KM-106.1; FC-52; Cal-1105; Yonaka-M8-72A. Variety with inverted Assayer's letters and mint mark. Glimmering with silvery luster, this first year issue for the portrait series is extremely difficult to find in high states of preservation. The central devices show some weakness of strike, but the semi-reflective luster is above average when compared to its peers. While mostly untoned, there is a slight golden tone that stands as a testament to this coin's originality. Only a single coin is graded higher at PCGS. A required type for any Mexican collector, this current example is sure to attract attention.
The Stendebach Collection.
Estimate: $3000 - $3500
