MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1789-Mo FM. Mexico City Mint. Charles IV. PCGS MS-62.
KM-107; Cal-950; Yonaka-M8-89-IV. Just barely missing the prooflike designation, this flashy and reflective coin has a breathtaking appearance in hand, especially for a more difficult translation year issue. One of 4 types over the 1789-90 dates, the current example is a variety featuring the portrait of Charles III with the name of Charles IV in the legends. The devices are frosted and provide significant cameo while afloat on the watery fields. Mostly untoned save for a splash of russet toning on the upper periphery of both the obverse and reverse. Only a single coin is graded higher at PCGS.
The Stendebach Collection.
Estimate: $1500 - $2000
