VENEZUELA. Silver Uniface 10 Bolivares Pattern, 1973. Los Angeles (Metalor) Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63.
KM-Unlisted. Reeded edge variety. An interesting and unique piece of Venezuelan numismatic history, this uniface trial strike delivers a crisp obverse appearance and much shimmering reflectivity. Slightly varying from the accepted design with minor variances between script and dentaliation, highlighting the unadopted nature of the piece. Some light evidence of handling is seen on the surfaces, making the grade, though some peripheral toning serves to add to the charm.
This Uniface trial strike appears to have been produced in Los Angeles by the Metalor precious metal company in an attempt to secure a minting contract to produce Venezuela's first commemorative coin. This attempt ultimately failed, as the coinage was ultimately struck at the Royal Mint in Ottawa Canada, leaving this as an interesting numismatic footnote.
Estimate: $1000 - $2000
