BRAZIL. Brazil - Bolivia. Minas Gerais. 960 Reis, ND (1808-10). Serro Frio Mint. Joao as Prince Regent. PCGS EF-45, Countermark: AU Details.
KM-424; LDMB-P450; Gomes-JR.115.02. Issued by decree of 1 September 1808 until 4 April 1810. Denominated arms of the Portugal bifacial countermark applied to an 1807-PTS PJ Bolivia bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV). The countermark is boldly applied with some remaining luster in the protected areas to a nicely preserved and well struck host. The surfaces are relatively smooth exhibiting only minor marks consistent for the grade displaying rich attractive old cabinet patina with richer coloration amongst the devices. When tilted in the light a faint iridescent sheen pops out complementing this handsome survivor. Though one of the more abundant host mints for this prolific issue, the overall quality and appearance is far nicer than normally encountered and is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
