COSTA RICA. Costa Rica - Peru. "Carrillo" 8 Reales, ND (1841). San Jose Mint. PCGS VF-30. Countermark: EF Details.
KM-24; de la Cruz-pg. 14; Guardian-pg.62/3. Issued by decree of 19 November 1841 under Braulio Carrillo Colina. Countermark: Type I, small six-pointed star within larger six-pointed radiant star within circular incuse; plug removed from reverse above the arms of Peru; test punch on obverse between "FIRME" and "Y" of the legend. Countermark applied to the obverse of an 1832-LIMA MM Peru Republic 8 Reales (KM-142.3). A somewhat SCARCE and not often encountered host, this coin exhibits moderate signs of handling and some pleasing toning, with the countermark also retaining solid originality as well. A great opportunity for the specialist in this burgeoning series.
