COSTA RICA. Costa Rica - Peru. "Carrillo" 8 Reales, ND (1841-42). San Jose Mint. PCGS VG-08, Countermark: VF Details.
KM-24; de la Cruz-pg. 14; Guardian-pg. 62/3. Issued by decree of 19 November 1841 under Braulio Carrillo Colina. Countermark: Type I, small six-pointed star within larger six-pointed radiant star within circular incuse; plug removed from reverse above the arms of Peru; test punch on obverse between "FIRME" and "Y" of the legend. Applied to a 1836-LIMA MT Peru Republic 8 Reales (KM-142.3). This well circulated survivor exhibits even wear with a charming two tone appearance. The surfaces display a light gray coloration on the high points and exposed fields in contrast to the slate patina in the protected areas and crevasses. Seldom appearing on the market in any grade, the present survivor offers honest wear with much originality.

Estimate: $1500 - $2500
