DOMINICA. Dominica - Mexico. 6 Bitts, ND (1813). George III. PCGS VF-25, Countermark: EF Details.
KM-6; Prid-27. Weight: 9.21 gms. Issued by local ordinance of 7 August 1813. Countermark: Raised crowned 6 within shaped indent, roughly grained edge. Applied to the obverse of a central plug of a 1808-11-Mo Mexico armored bust 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII (KM-110). This beautifully preserved and highly attractive survivor exhibits rich mottled gray patina that's complemented by an iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light. The countermark is complete and bold on a well detailed host with a pleasing appearance. Usually found in less than desirable conditions, this piece ranks amongst the finest known for this denomination on either the NGC or PCGS population reports and as such should be considered EXTREMELY RARE in this high state or preservation.

There are two interesting facets concerning the present example. First, being able to attribute the host to a four-year bust type that is unique to Mexico. When encountered the host is usually well-worn with many examples exhibiting damage of some kind. Aside from being able to determine which ruler is featured on the host all identifying characteristics are non-existent. Second, the presence of the grained edge. Due to the crude nature of the grained edge coupled with heavy circulation, the edge is seldom even noticed. Making the present piece of special interest to West Indies collectors.

Estimate: $900 - $1200
