GREAT BRITAIN. Great Britain - Mexico. Dollar (4 Shillings 9 Pence), ND (1797). George III. PCGS AU-55, Countermark: UNC Details.
S-3765A; KM-634. Authorized 9 March 1797. Countermark: Bank of England Type I; Raised bust of George III within oval indent. Applied to the obverse of a 1795-Mo FM Mexico bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV) (KM-109). An attractive and original looking example of the type with a boldly applied and well defined countermark exhibiting an oddly shaped bulge on the reverse found on a quite a few pieces from this issue. Lovely light mottled gray tone coupled with richer coloration in the peripheries and crevasses displaying hints of iridescence near the edges gives this survivor a pleasing and wholesome appearance. A fine representative of the type with a good look and lots of character certain to add depth to the next collection it enters.

Ex: Trident Collection.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
