GREAT BRITAIN. Great Britain - Peru. Dollar (4 Shillings 9 Pence), ND (1797). George III. PCGS AU-55, Countermark: UNC Details.
S-3765A; KM-637. Authorized 9 March 1797. Countermark: Bank of England Type I; Raised bust of George III within oval indent. Applied to the obverse of a 1790-LIMEA IJ Peru transitional bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII, ordinal IV, but with the bust of Charles III (KM-87). A two-year host coin that is rather quite RARE found with any countermark, let alone this visually pleasing. The countermark is deeply applied on a beautifully preserved host displaying lovely rich mottled gray patina with hints of iridescence amongst the devices. This wholly original looking survivor offers a good eye appeal combined with a somewhat sneaky and interesting host.

Ex: Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
