GREAT BRITAIN. Great Britain - Peru. Dollar (5 Shillings), ND (1804). George III. PCGS AU-53, Countermark: AU Details.
S-3766; KM-Unlisted; Bull-1872. Authorized 2 January 1804. Countermark: Bank of England Type II; Raised bust of George III right utilized from the then current 6 Pence. Applied to the obverse of a 1790-LIMEA IJ Peru transitional bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII with ordinal IV, but with the bust of Charles III (KM-87). This very attractive and beautifully preserved survivor, a three-year host type, exhibits a bold well struck countermark. The surfaces display lovely rich old cabinet patina with plenty of underlying luster adding to its pleasing appearance. This short lived host, being produced using the effigy of the previous king modifying the legends to reflect the new monarch, is seldom encountered as a host for any countermark issue and should be considered scarce to RARE. Wholly original looking, this lovely survivor clearly sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed and now offers good eye appeal.

Estimate: $3000 - $4000
