JAMAICA. Jamaica - Peru. 6 Shillings 8 Pence (8 Reales - Dollar), ND (1758). George II. NGC MS-61.
KM-Unlisted; Prid-4. The single finest certified of the denomination on either the NGC or PCGS population reports. Issued by local act of 18 November 1758. Countermark: Bifacial ornate G.R. within circular incuse. Applied to a 1757-LIMEA JM Peru pillar 8 Reales of Ferdinand VI (KM-55.1). This beautifully preserved and very attractive survivor boasts lovely rich old cabinet patina with a slight iridescent sheen that becomes apparent when tilting in the light. The countermarks are bold and well-defined on a gently handled host coin, leagues better than normally encountered for this type. This popular issue can be obtained in various grades up to extremely fine with the occasional piece in almost uncirculated conditions, but for this series very few have survived garner a MINT STATE status. The condition census example should be considered EXTREMELY RARE in this elite state of preservation destined for an advanced collection of fine numismatic objects.
