cf. KM-28 (MR only); Gomes-Unlisted. Issued by decree of 20 August 1765 under Governor Baltazar Manoel Pereira do Lago. Countermarks: Ligate MR and M incuse. Applied to the obverse of a 1758-Mo MM Mexico "Pillar" 8 Reales of Ferdinand VI (KM-104.1) previous Mozambique incuse "M" countermark issued by decree of 1760 under Governor Pedro de Saldanha de Albuquerque. A fairly SCARCE type featuring the previous countermark of 1760 (M) along with the revaluation from five years later (MR). The countermarks themselves are rather well executed and feature a deep color within, while the host coin remains a lighter gunmetal gray throughout.
