KM-27.2; Gomes-Unlisted; Azevedo-pg. 29. Issued by decree of 20 August 1765 under Governor Baltazar Manoel Pereira do Lago. Countermark: Ligate MR incuse. Applied to the obverse of a 1766-LIMEA JM Peru "Pillar" 8 Reales of Charles II (KM-A64.2). A fairly SCARCE host mint for the countermark coupled with being the "double dot" variety for the year, this pleasing example yields a lighter nature to the M, but an extremely strong aspect to the R, all with the surfaces remaining quite clean and evenly wholesome.
