NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Madura Islands - Mexico. Ducaton, ND (ca. 1811-54). Sultan Paku Nata Ningrat. PCGS AU-50, Countermark: AU Details.
KM-201.6. Countermark: Variety S1a; Flower-like design in the shape of a egg. Applied to the obverse of a 1782-Mo FF Mexico bust 8 Reales of Charles III (106.2). This handsome survivor offers a pleasing appearance displaying light attractive gray patina with luster in the protected areas. The countermark is bold and clear on the nicely preserved host with hints of iridescence amongst the devices. With some frequency these issues are usually found in conditions up to very fine, but are seldom encountered in extremely fine or better, such as the present example and should be considered RARE and unusual.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
