PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-20, Countermark: AU Details.
KM-71; Basso-55; PNM#6-38 (plate coin); PNM#16-95; PNM#21-66; Cacho-VIII-CS-032; Gil-5-4-1-C. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark: Type V, crowned F.7.0 within circle. Applied to the obverse of a 1822-Mo JM Mexico Empire of Iturbide 8 Reales, large bust with full legends (KM-309). An EXTREMELY RARE host for this issue with only a few recorded, we have only three documented examples, which includes the legend varieties of full and abbreviated legends. The countermark is deeply impressed on a nicely preserved and very attractive host displaying rich slate tone with lovely iridescent patina in the peripheries. Wholly original looking with good eye appeal, this seldom encountered host is sure to excite many collectors, especially so with its fantastic provenance.
