PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, VF Details.
KM-74; Basso-55; PNM#6-Unlisted; PNM#16-Unlisted; PNM#21-Unlisted; Cacho-VIII-CS-049; Gil-5-4-1-C; DP-Ga10. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark: Type V; crowned F.7.0 within circle. Applied to the obverse of a 1832/1-Ga FS/LP Mexico Republic 8 Reales, overdate and over assayer variety. This sneaky somewhat unassuming host exhibits a bold clear overdate and is considered scarce by Resplandores, the standard reference on "Cap & Ray" 8 Reales. For this date we have only three recorded examples, two bearing Y.II. countermarks, but for F.7.0 we have only the present piece documented and as such should be considered RARE. The countermark is bold, though showing signs of degradation in the center where it is beginning to fail, on a decently preserved host. The surfaces show signs of handling consistent for the grade displaying mottled gray patina with minor earthen deposits amongst the devices. A couple of small well placed scratches on the reverse account for the details designation from long ago, now toned over. Despite its shortcoming a presentable example of the type that offers several interesting aspects that are sure to pique the interest of advanced collectors looking to complement their numismatic holdings.

Estimate: $1000 - $1500
