PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Fine Details, Countermark: VF Details.
KM-77; Basso-55; PNM#6-Unlisted; PNM#16-Unlisted; PNM#21-Unlisted; Cacho-VII-CS-007; Gil-5-4-1-C. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark: Type V; crowned F.7.0 within circle. Applied to the obverse of a 1806-LIMA Peru bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV) (KM-97). The countermark is uneven missing the top portion of the crown, but still easily attributable to the 5-4-1-C crown variety on a well circulated host. Numerous small with a couple of medium size chops, as is common for this host, adds a bit of character to this charming example. Close inspection reveals numerous thin scratches in front of the bust accounting for the details designation of "Tooled" somewhat lending to the utilitarian nature of these issues. Despite its shortcoming a presentable example of the type with a decent look that is sure to add depth to the next collection it enters.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
