PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Bolivia. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Chopmark, Fine Details, Countermark: EF Details.
KM-98; Basso-56; PNM#6-Unlisted; PNM#16-Unlisted; PNM#21-Unlisted; Cacho-Unlisted; Gil-5-4-3-III. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834 and suppressed 31 March 1837 (by decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark: Type VI; crowned Y.II. within circular incuse. Applied to the obverse of a 1800-PTS PP Bolivia bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV) (KM-73). This charming and well-worn survivor exhibits mottled gray patina with numerous small and medium chopmarks on both sides. The countermark is bold, though slightly obscured by several chops, with an interesting diagnostic in the queen's cipher, bit of degradation to the punch where the top portion of the "Y" is filled adding a bit of character to this piece. Despite its shortcomings, a presentable example of the type that is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
Estimate: $2000 - $3000
