PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS F-15, Countermark: VF Details.
KM-118; Basso-56; PNM#6-109; PNM#16-239; PNM#21-VIII-63; Cacho-Unlisted; Gil-5-4-3-III. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. Countermark: Type VI, crowned Y.II. within circle. Applied to the obverse of a 1818-Zs AG Mexico War of Independence bust 8 Reales of Ferdinand VII (KM-111.5). The countermark is well applied, though slightly uneven, and nicely centered on a well-worn crude host. The surfaces are relatively smooth with a portion of natural roughness on the reverse due to its crude manufacture. An attractive mottled golden gray patina complements this charming survivor adding to it originality.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
