PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, VF Details, Countermark: EF Details.
KM-121; Basso-56; PNM#6-116; PNM#16-250; PNM#21-VIII-70; Cacho-IX-CS-070; Gil-5-4-3-III. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. Countermark: Type VI, crowned Y.II. within circle. Applied to the obverse of a 1822-Mo JM Mexico Empire of Iturbide 8 Reales, first bust with upright eagle (KM-304). A SCARCE and popular host from this series. The countermark is bold, though the last numeral from the queen's cipher is obscured by the design features, on a decently preserved host. The surfaces exhibit minor marks that one would associate from this state of preservation, though a small old scratch in the obverse field prevents a numeric grade. Despite its shortcomings a handsome example of the type that is sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.
Estimate: $1500 - $3000
