KM-129; Basso-56; PNM#6-144; PNM#16-319; PNM#21-VIII-130; Cacho-IX-CS-060; Gil-5-4-1-II. Type VI countermark; crowned Y.II. within circular indent. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837 (By Decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark applied to the obverse of a 1833-Go MJ Mexico republic 8 Reales; Full "J" with three periods ":." after date variety. We have more than 20 examples documented for this date, most of which are the straight "J" variety, but only four that exhibit the full "J". The countermark is bold and clear on a nicely preserved host displaying light attractive mottled gray patina with minor earthen deposits amongst the devices and remaining luster in the protected areas. Close inspection reveals several thin surface scratches on the reverse from long ago now toned over, though this is hardly a distraction mentioned for the sake of accuracy. This charming survivor offers much originality and is sure to catch the attention of the completionist perusing specialist.
