THAILAND. Thailand - Mexico. Trade Dollar, ND (1858-60). Rama IV. PCGS Genuine--Damage, EF Details, Countermark: EF Details.
KM-C-141.11; LeMay-pg. 95, pl. XXII, 5, Krisadaolarn/Mihailovs-pg. 148, pl. F05. Issued by decree of 7 January 1857. Countermark: Mongkut and Chakra. Applied to the obverse of a 1856-Zs MO Mexico Republic 8 Reales (KM-377.13). A SCARCE and popular type that seldom appears on the market in any condition. The countermarks are deeply impressed, though the Chakra wheel is a bit uneven as is common for this series, on a presentable host displaying pervasive slate patina. Close inspection reveals many marks and abrasions with a sizable hit mark on the obverse. Despite its shortcomings a presentable example of the type perfect for the academic collector on a budget.
Estimate: $1000 - $1500
