GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign (30 Shillings), ND (1584-86). London Mint; mm: escallop. Elizabeth I. PCGS AU-55.
S-2529; Fr-209; N-2003. Sixth issue. Obverse: Elizabeth, holding lis-tipped scepter and orb, seated facing on ornate Gothic throne; all within tressure of arches; portcullis with chains below; Reverse: Coat-of-arms at center of Tudor rose; all within polylobe, with alternating lis and palm fronds. One of the most sought after gold denominations within the entirety of the English hammered series, this impressive survivor offers a rather perplexing strong strike across both sides, with none of the oft-seen weakness in the legends or figure of the queen. Even the most passing of glances reveals seldom seen quality in her facial features, as well as the precise detailing within the lis and lions of the central coat-of-arms. Further its massive appeal that much more is an elegant tone that deepens to a delightful orange around the exacting devices, making this a true connoisseur's coin, and one which should undoubtedly generate tremendous enthusiasm and most spirited bidding.

Estimate: $40000 - $60000
