Obverse: Elizabeth, holding lis-tipped scepter and orb, seated facing on ornate Gothic throne; all within tressure of arches; portcullis with chains below; Reverse: Coat-of-arms at center of Tudor rose; all within polylobe, with alternating lis and palm fronds. One of the most sought after gold denominations within the entirety of the English hammered series, this impressive survivor offers a rather perplexing strong strike across both sides, with none of the oft-seen weakness in the legends or figure of the queen.
