GREAT BRITAIN. Map of the World Bronze Medal, ND (ca. 1820). PCGS SPECIMEN-66.
Eimer-1139A. Diameter: 74mm. Unsigned, but commonly ascribed to Thomas Halliday. Obverse: Map of North and South American (Western Hemisphere) with lines of latitude and longitude crossing globe; Reverse: Map of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia (Eastern Hemisphere) with lines of latitude and longitude crossing globe. A masterpiece work, this medal accurately depicts the world's geography at the beginning of the 19th century. Scarce in all forms, it is most commonly seen in white metal alloy, and it is fair to consider it RARE in bronze. As preserved here with its even dark-brown coloration, VERY RARE, and quite possibly the finest representative of the type extant. Free from all handling, with no spots residing on the surfaces, the presentation is undeniably museum-worthy.
Estimate: $2500 - $5000
