NETHERLANDS. Overyssel (Overijssel). Ducat, ND (1590-93). Overyssel Mint. PCGS AU-53.
Fr-262; Delm-1048. Imitating the Excellente type of Ferdinand V & Isabella II, and in the name of Philip II of Spain. Mildly handled and with a pleasing tone that accentuates the devices, this type was issued in the Dutch Republic, which had declared independence from the Habsburgs and Spain a decade prior. Nevertheless it retains the name of the Spanish monarch, as well as imitating the face-to-face portrait type from the prior century utilized under the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand & Isabella.
From the David Sterling Collection.
Estimate: $1000 - $2000
