SPAIN. 8 Reales, 1728/7-F. Segovia Mint; mm: aqueduct. Philip V. NGC MS-64.
KM-336.1 (overdate not mentioned); Cal-1597 var. (same). Overdate variety. Mentioned on the holder as being struck on a somewhat smaller flan, this immensely impressive near-Gem yields a high degree of radiant brilliance and luster, with all details rather sharply executed. Portions of the "7" are evident below the terminal "8" in the date, making this a VERY RARE variant in addition to the SCARCELY-encountered level of preservation. For completeness, however, a minor planchet issue is noted on the lower castle of the shield.
From the David Sterling Collection.
Estimate: $3000 - $5000
