GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. "Falsehood" Taler, 1597. Goslar Mint. Heinrich Julius. PCGS AU-50.
Dav-9090; KM (MB)-270; Welter-628. Part of the Duke's series of "emblematic" Talers that reference his disputes with some of the rural nobles, this "falsehood" Taler presents a lion (representing the Duke) being crowned by an angel flying in the air. Meanwhile, the lion tears into an ibex, representing the quarrelsome nobles. Pleasingly detailed and enchantingly toned.
