GERMANY. Medallic Issues. Augsburg. Gold Medal of 6 Ducats Weight, ND (ca. 1725). PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Unc Details.
Forster-877; cf. GPH-1058. By P. H. Mueller. Weight: 20.77 gms. On the topic of feminine virtue. Obverse: Martha, holding distaff and cookware, standing right, and Maria, in prayer, seated left; Reverse: Rachel, holding crozier, and Ruth, holding bushel of wheat, standing facing one another. An interesting medallic issue that presents some rather misogynistic views on what was expected of a woman (namely, to be as beautiful as Rachel, smart as Ruth, diligent as Martha, and pious as Maria), this type is known in silver, but INCREDIBLY RARE in gold, especially in this multiple Ducat format. As such, the noted scratch is quite inconsequential.
Estimate: $1000 - $2000
