GERMANY. Medallic Issues. Nuremberg. Gold Medal of 10 Ducats Weight, ND (ca. 1700). NGC Unc Details--Mount Removed.
Erlanger-2208; cf. GPH-1025 (silver). By G. Hautsch. Weight: 34.6 gms. Obverse: GOTT GEBE SEINEN SEGEN REICHLICH VBER EVCH (May God grant unto you his manifold blessings), young bridal couple standing facing one another, holding hands before God the Father, who blesses the marriage; guardian angel to left, old man to right, radiant sun above; Reverse: LAST VNS GOTT BITTEN, DEN WIR SIND KINDER D HEILIGN (Let us ask God, for we are all children of the Holy One), bridal pair kneeling in prayer before burning brazier; to left, angel kneeling left, driving sword through the head of a demon; marriage bed in background. Despite its minor rim markings from its mount removal, this incredibly appealing, powerful, and massively large medal in gold will undoubtedly delight. A VERY RARE and seldom seen type, one is immediately drawn to the range of emotions on the reverse, where a newly-marriage couple pray in their bedroom, all while a demon is rather violently slayed, with blood even pouring forth from his eyes.

From the Augustana Collection.
