Brozatus-869; Whiting-173; Merseburger-4540 (there as a Taler). By C. Wermuth. Diameter: 43mm. Commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Reformation. Obverse: Cloaked bust of Martin Luther right; Reverse: Bust of Katharina von Boras left, with hair in net. Deeply toned and evenly handled, this type has been at times, as on the holder, described as a Taler, but there is no issuing authority, and it is undoubtedly fully medallic in nature, as opposed to the more quasi-medallic issues that were also issued in conjunction with this event.
