ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (7.54 gms), ca. 380-340 BC. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 3/5. Flan Flaw, Graffito.
HGC-1, 767; Vlasto-378; HN Italy-869. Obverse: Nude youth, holding shield, on horse standing left; Reverse: Phalanthos riding dolphin left. Though struck with a slightly worn obverse die, this deeply toned Didrachm offers attractive original detail. A flan flaw on the obverse and a lightly etched graffito on the reverse are noted for completeness, but the piece is quite charming overall.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $200 - $400
