ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (7.79 gms), ca. 332-302 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 3/5 Surface: 3/5. Flan Flaw, Scratches.
HGC-1, 803; Vlasto-605; HN Italy-937. Obverse: Warrior, preparing to cast spear and holding two others, on horse rearing right; ΣA below; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding kantharos and cradling trident, riding dolphin left; monogram to left; below, small dolphin left. A bright example with great originality. The expressive obverse details are still quite attractive despite some weakness around the peripheries and a flan flaw on the center. The reverse is free from problems, with crisp details and some underlying luster.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $300 - $500
