ITALY. Calabria. Tarentum. AR Didrachm (Nomos) (6.37 gms), ca. 272-240 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5. Overstruck.
HGC-1, 894; HN Italy-1040. Reduced standard. Warrior, holding javelin, on horseback right; |-IΠΠOΔA below; Reverse: Phalanthos, holding distaff and kantharos, riding dolphin left; ΔI to inner right, amphora to outer right. Amid the exceedingly sharp details on this Didrachm, a clear overstrike is visible on the obverse horse's neck. The fields abound with luster and the complex reverse symbols all appear delightfully crisp.

From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.

Estimate: $300 - $500
