ITALY. Lucania. Laus. AR Stater (7.94 gms), ca. 480-460 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Scuffs.
HGC-1, 1537; HN Italy-2275; SNG Cop-1146; Jameson-256 (this coin). Obverse: Man-faced bull standing left, head reverted; Reverse: Man-faced bull standing right. An impressive and RARE Stater. Both sides are well-centered and strongly detailed, and the toned surfaces show subtle iridescent hues on the lustrous fields. A number of scuff marks are noted on the reverse. A lovely example of the elusive coinage of Laus.
