HGC-4, 1329; SNG Cop-303; Weber-1568 (this coin). Obverse: Boeotian shield; Reverse: Infant Herakles seated facing, head right, strangling two serpents; Θ-E below; all within circular incuse. This Stater displays a well-centered shield on the obverse of its broad, round flan. The reverse shows a dynamic mythological scene struck from a skillfully engraved die and full of detail. The surfaces exhibit lovely deep cabinet toning with abundant luster and slight iridescence. One small well-placed punch is noted on each side of the coin. A highly attractive example of this SCARCE and highly desirable type.
