ATTICA. Athens. AR Tetradrachm (17.12 gms), ca. 454-404 B.C. NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 2/5. Test Cut.
HGC-4, 1597; Kroll-8. Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena right; Reverse: Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent to left; all within incuse square. A nice example struck on a full flan. A small test cut is noted on the reverse above the owl's head, though it detracts little from this charming example of this eminently popular type.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
Estimate: $400 - $600
