NETHERLANDS. Tribute to William III after Flood of Bommelerwaard Silver Medal, 1861. PCGS SPECIMEN-65.
Dirks-842. By C. Wiener. Diameter: 62mm. Obverse: Bare head right; Reverse: Female personification of the Netherlands aiding family in need, draping kneeling man to right and providing grain from cornucopia to mother and child seated to left. Already a VERY RARE medal in bronze, this type is almost never seen in silver, with the present Gem offering a deep amber-gray tone and immense iridescence highlighting the fields. Further its enchanting eye appeal that much more is some shimmering brilliance dancing rather delightfully with the rainbow palette.
From the Mark and Lottie Salton Collection.
Estimate: $500 - $1000
