ETHIOPIA. Bank of Ethiopia. 500 Thalers, 1932. P-11. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
Printed by BWC. Dated May 1, 1932. One of the most popular series within collectible banknotes as this BWC design shows the superior artistic talent employed by the banknote company. The large format allowed for incredible detail with the vignette of a warrior standing at left observed boxed within an ornate frame. Lion at upper center with bank name within scroll style engraving. Large multicolored guilloche at center and bank building at right. A geometrically intense back design is seen with a near border to border under-print with denomination and bank name repeated. Incredible colors are found on both sides of the note. Out of 25 notes graded by PMG for the type, this is the only note to have reached the Gem grade level. Worthy of a premium bid, as high grade rarities such as this example become entombed within tightly held, advanced collections. PMG Pop 1/None Finer.
From the Scott Lindquist Collection.
Estimate: $20000 - $30000
