NORWAY. Norges Bank. 500 Kroner, 1942. P-23s. Specimen. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Printed by Waterlow & Sons Limited, London. Watermark of F. Nansen. Four punch cancellations with dual specimen overprints. Arms at left. Aqua and green primary design. Dark yellow guilloche at center surrounding the counter, with blue & yellow lace. Gold and purple design below the guilloche. Well executed Scandinavian motifs on both sides of the note. The design on the back is in a olive green ink, which highlights the intricate lathe work. Five "500" counters on the back, with bank name at top and monogram of King Haakan VII at right. Lovely originality and vibrant inks are found on this specimen, as attested by the Gem grade and Exceptional Paper Quality qualifier. This note should pique the interest of collectors, as it is an original specimen, and not a remainder which was later punch cancelled and overprinted. The key note to the 1942 set, and the only example listed in PMG's population report. Opportunities to acquire such legendary pieces of currency only come once in a blue moon, and it may be some time or even decades before this piece is offered publicly again. PMG Pop 1/No Others Graded.

From the Scott Lindquist Collection.

Estimate: $25000 - $35000
