JUDAEA, Gaza. Macrinus. 217-218 CE. BI Tetradrachm (25.5mm, 11.22 g, 1h). Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing, head left, with wings displayed, holding wreath in beak; star to upper right; between legs, symbol of Marnas within circle. Prieur 1695; Bellinger –; Sofaer 203 var. (obv. legend). Toned, minor roughness, deposit on obverse, small flan flaw on reverse. VF. Very rare.

At the time of his publication, Prieur listed only 1 example for this variety and a total of only 3 coins of Macrinus from Gaza. More have appeared on the market since but it is still a very rare type.
