Saxe-Gotha. Ernst I "Death" Taler 1668 MS63 NGC, Gotha mint, KM24, Dav-7448. Mintage: 204. A sought-after two year type, known as a death Taler or Sterbetaler, allegorically relating to the death or glory of the deceased and accompanied by an inverted heart and skull motif. Dressed in pearlescent gray and champagne tone with underlying reflective fields. Popular in any grade and most often encountered just shy of Mint State preservation, yet here witnessed in a decidedly Choice designation and the sole finest.
