Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Friedrich I Taler 1689-W MS64 NGC, Gotha mint, KM88, Dav-7474, Merseberger-3085. Struck to commemorate the inauguration of the Friedrichswerth palace and church, a miracle of survivorship for its age confirmed by its residency as "top pop" at NGC. Stupendous detail is showcased in the motifs, every curl on the bust and every window on the Friedrichswerth complex fully rendered. Hints of pure argent color twinkle in the peripheries, sharing the surfaces with brilliant baby pink, emerald, and cordovan that inhabit the expanses. Truly a piece that demands appreciation in person.
